Journal #20. Better sleep starts with the right foundations

Better sleep starts with the right foundations

Sleep is one of the most important contributors to how you think, feel and perform. It supports memory, learning, emotional regulation, energy, immune function and the brain’s ability to recover from the demands of the day.

When sleep is disrupted, the effects are often felt quickly. Concentration can become harder, decision-making can feel more effortful, stress can feel less manageable and mental energy can drop.

For many people, the issue is not simply getting enough hours in bed. It is being able to fall asleep, stay asleep and wake feeling genuinely restored.

Why sleep matters for cognitive performance

During sleep, the brain is still active. It processes information from the day, consolidates memories and supports recovery across multiple systems.

Poor sleep can affect:

  • Focus and concentration
  • Memory and learning
  • Mood and emotional resilience
  • Stress tolerance
  • Mental energy and motivation
  • Physical recovery

A single poor night is common. But if sleep problems are frequent, persistent or affecting daily life, it is worth speaking with a GP or qualified health professional. Sleep disruption can have many causes, including stress, anxiety, pain, medication, hormonal changes, sleep disorders and other health conditions.

Start with your sleep routine

Before looking for a supplement, focus on the habits that create the best conditions for sleep.

  • Keep a consistent wake-up time where possible
  • Get daylight exposure early in the day
  • Reduce caffeine later in the afternoon
  • Create a clear wind-down routine before bed
  • Keep the bedroom cool, dark and quiet
  • Limit alcohol, which can disrupt sleep quality even when it helps you fall asleep
  • Put screens away or reduce bright light in the hour before bed
  • If your mind is busy, write down tomorrow’s tasks before you try to sleep

You do not need to do all of these perfectly. Choose one or two changes that feel realistic and repeat them consistently.

The Sleep Health approach

For people looking for additional support, Sleep Health is formulated to support restful sleep and reduce factors that can make it harder to settle at night.

It combines three botanical ingredients selected for complementary roles in sleep and relaxation:

CPO lavender oil

Lavender has a long history of use for relaxation. CPO lavender oil is included to support a calm, settled state before bed.

Shoden® ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is traditionally used to support the body’s response to stress. Shoden® is included to support relaxation and healthy sleep quality.

Jujube

Jujube has a history of traditional use in sleep and relaxation formulations. It is included to support a more restful night’s sleep.

Together, these ingredients are designed to support the transition from a busy day into a calmer evening routine.

Support your cognitive performance

Sleep is not a luxury. It is one of the foundations of cognitive performance.

Sleep Health is designed to complement good sleep habits, not replace them. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or replace professional care for insomnia, anxiety, sleep disorders or other medical conditions.

At The Vitalogy Project, we believe better cognitive performance starts with better recovery. When you sleep well, you give your brain more capacity to think clearly, manage stress and meet the next day with greater energy.
