Journal #30: Reclaim Your Energy: A Brain-First Approach

Reclaim Your Energy: A Brain-First Approach

When energy is low, it is tempting to look for a quick fix: more coffee, a sugary snack, a harder workout or simply pushing through.

But lasting energy is rarely about forcing more from yourself. It is about supporting the systems that help you think clearly, recover well and stay steady through the demands of everyday life.

Fatigue can have many causes, including poor sleep, stress, illness, medication, hormonal changes, nutrient deficiencies and mental overload. If fatigue is persistent, severe or unexplained, it is worth speaking with a GP or qualified health professional.

For everyday energy dips, these foundations can make a meaningful difference.

1. Support steady mental energy

Mental energy is not the same as physical energy. You can feel physically capable while your attention, motivation and decision-making feel depleted.

Long periods of stress, poor sleep, constant notifications and task-switching can all contribute to mental fatigue. Start by reducing unnecessary cognitive load where you can: focus on one task at a time, take short breaks between demanding activities and avoid trying to solve everything at once.

A varied diet, regular movement, recovery and enough sleep all support the brain systems involved in focus and mental clarity.

For people looking for additional support, Brain Health is designed to support cognitive function, mental clarity, healthy mood balance and everyday brain resilience.

2. Protect restorative sleep

Sleep is one of the most important contributors to sustainable energy.

It is during sleep that the brain processes information, supports memory, regulates emotional experiences and helps the body recover. Poor sleep can leave you feeling wired but tired, less focused and more sensitive to stress.

Create a routine that helps your body recognise when the day is ending:

  • Keep a consistent wake-up time where possible
  • Get daylight exposure early in the day
  • Reduce caffeine later in the afternoon
  • Dim lights and reduce screens before bed
  • Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet
  • Write down tomorrow’s tasks if your mind is busy

Sleep Health is designed to support restful sleep and overnight recovery. It is intended to complement a good sleep routine, not replace it.

3. Hydrate consistently

Even mild dehydration can affect concentration, mood and physical performance.

Keep water nearby throughout the day, particularly if you are exercising, travelling, working in heated or air-conditioned spaces, or drinking caffeine. Hydrating foods such as fruit, vegetables, soups and yoghurt can also contribute to your daily fluid intake.

There is no need to overcomplicate it. Regular water intake and paying attention to thirst are useful starting points for most people.

4. Move in a way that gives energy back

When you feel tired, intense exercise may not always be the answer. But gentle movement can often help shift your state.

Walking, stretching, yoga, swimming, cycling or a short strength session can support circulation, mood, sleep and mental clarity. The best form of movement is usually the one you can repeat consistently and recover from well.

Even ten to fifteen minutes can create a useful reset during a demanding day.

5. Eat for steady energy

Energy crashes are often made worse by long gaps between meals or foods that create a quick rise and fall in blood sugar.

Aim for meals that combine protein, fibre, healthy fats and slow-release carbohydrates. Colourful fruit and vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, eggs, fish and quality proteins can all support more stable energy across the day.

Flavonoid-rich foods such as berries, citrus, apples, tea, herbs and cacao are also a useful part of a varied, plant-rich diet.

6. Reduce the drain of constant stress

Stress can be one of the biggest drains on energy. It can keep the mind alert when the body needs recovery and make even simple tasks feel more demanding.

You cannot remove every source of pressure, but you can create moments that help your nervous system settle: a walk outside, a few slow breaths, a clear boundary around work, a conversation with someone you trust or a short pause before moving to the next task.

Calm & Relax is designed to support a calm, focused mind and a healthy stress response. It combines AlphaWave® L-theanine and Holixer™ holy basil and is intended to complement practical stress-management habits.

Your energy is worth protecting

You do not need more hustle to feel more energised. You need practical habits that support the way your brain and body recover, focus and respond to pressure.

Start with one change that feels realistic: a more consistent bedtime, a short walk, regular meals, more water or a better boundary around your workday.

Small actions, repeated often, can create more capacity for the life you want to live.
